RED SOX IN OCTOBER? AARON JUDGE, ALBERT PUJOLS

by: Jackson Elkins

The Boston Red Sox are officially eliminated from playoff contention, so there isn’t much to go over with them, but the big thing with the Red Sox right now is what will happen in the offseason. But that can wait. The Portland Sea Dogs, the Red Sox double-A affiliate, are in the postseason. A bright spot for Red Sox future for sure. The Sea Dogs are led by the 2022 Red Sox minor league player of the year, number 4 prospect in the system, and number 100 overall prospect Ceddanne Rafaela. Rafaela had a slash line of .299/.342/.880, while hitting 21 home runs on 144 hits in 481 at bats. Not only has he swung the bat well, he has done great on the base paths, stealing 28 bags.

On the other hand, the Yankees’ Aaron Judge is seeking history. Aaron Judge is about to break the American League single season home run record as he needs one more to stand alone as he sits at 60 on the season (on pace for 65 to end the season).

Not only is he on pace to set that record, he is also in the triple crown race. As of Thursday night he leads the AL in home runs (60) and in RBIs (128). The next closest person to him in home runs is Houston’s Yordan Alvarez (37), and next closest in RBIs is Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez (115). The third stat in the triple crown is batting average. As of Thursday, he is currently tied for first with Boston’s Xander Bogaerts at .317. Will Judge pass Bogaerts, or will the red hot X-man pull away.

There is also a huge Milestone in sight. Albert Pujols is currently sitting at 698 home runs, that is two away from the 700 milestone. Currently there are only three people who have reached the 700 feat. Those three being Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, and Babe Ruth. Pujols sits at fourth all time as he recently has passed Alex Rodriguez for that position. The Cardinals have 11 games remaining on their schedule this year and this season is set to be Pujols’ final year.
