HUSSON VOLLEYBALL LOOKS TO PUSH FORWARD WITH NEW SEASON, COACH

by: Ryan Barnes
After the 2021 season, one of the biggest questions with the Husson Eagles Volleyball team was how they will fare with the departure of coach Pat DeBeck and the arrival of new head coach Alex Gordon.
The Eagles started their 2022 season in Worcester, Massachusetts splitting a doubleheader with a win against SUNY Delhi and a loss against the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
After competitive losses against Bates, University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, and Framingham State University, the Eagles powered through to win a five set thriller against the University of Southern Maine.
Sophomore Julia Leavitt tallied a then-career high 24 kills against the Huskies as the Eagles won their three sets 25-23, 25-23, and 15-8.
Following the win, the Eagles lost three straight: two to the University of Maine at Fort Kent and another to the University of New England where Leavitt not only set a new personal record but a program record with 30 kills.
Husson rebounded with a sweep this past Sunday with wins over Lesley and New England College.
The Eagles returned home to take on the University of Maine at Presque Isle in their conference opener. They steamrolled the Owls 25-11, 25-14, 25-14.
Looking forward, the Eagles have the rest of conference play, starting this weekend against Northern Vermont University Johnson on Saturday and Northern Vermont University Lyndon on Sunday.
Husson Volleyball have not been in the playoffs since 2017 and look to return under new leadership.
